About the Farm

Established in 1843, Hutton Vale Farm is 2000 acres of picturesque countryside in the north eastern hills of Eden Valley. Homeland to rolling hills and big red gums, some over 400 years old, with girths too big to wrap your arms around. The farm has produced a wide range of things since its inception, from fresh and dried fruit, to tobacco, sheep, cattle and grapes. Even ostriches were farmed here 160 years ago for their feathers & leather.

The current custodians, Jan and John Angas, have a philosophy of a sustainable farming program for all their produce. With over 170 years of knowledge of their land filtering through, from generation to generation their kitchen table is laden with home produce including wine, lamb, vegetables and artisan chutney.

Hutton Vale Farm is an inaugural recipient of the Barossa Trust Mark, a mark of aspirational standard set by the Barossa region providing a guarantee and assurance of quality.

Camino Walk & Wine Tasting

Upon arrival to the Farm we will be given a tour in the form of a Camino Walk along some of the property’s 2,000 acres where we will enjoy a wine tasting. We will take in the picturesque Mt Edelstone Vineyard, planted by John Angas’ grandfather in 1910, and the beautiful landscape and vineyards of Hutton Vale Farm. We will get a glimpse of the iconic Henschke Hill of grace vineyard as well.

Paddock to Plate Wine Dinner

Following our walk we will sit down to a true farm to table wine dinner hosted by John and Jan where we will sit down at a relaxed table sharing stories and laughter with the best of the food and wine they produce.

At the conclusion of the evening shuttle bus transport will be provided back to the Vine Inn in Nurioopta

What’s the Wine Connection?

Dr. Colloca’s second professional passion is wine. Chris and his family now live on his 100-acre estate in Upstate New York where they have a 12-acre vineyard and cellar door where they produce about 2,000 cases of wine annually. Chris’ frequent trips to Australia during his annual research collaborations with the Adelaide Centre for Spinal Research at Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide enabled him to get quite familiar with the Barossa Valley, where he and the research team would adjourn each year following their data collection. Through these years, he was able to meet Barossa winemakers and purchased a vineyard contract enabling him to buy fruit and make wine that he imported into the USA on the Colloca wine label sold exclusively at his cellar door.
